چکیده

Jet quenching and high-p T azimuthal asymmetry Abstract The azimuthal anisotropy of high-p T particle production in non-central heavy ion collisions is among the most promising observables of partonic energy loss in an azimuthally non-symmetric volume of quark-gluon plasma. We discuss the implications of nuclear geometry for the models of partonic energy loss in the context of recent RHIC data and consequences for observation of jet quenching at the LHC.

Low - pT collective flow induces high - pT jet quenching

Data on low-pT hadronic spectra are widely regarded as evidence of a hydrodynamic expansion in nucleusnucleus collisions. In this interpretation, different hadron species emerge from a common medium that has built up a strong collective velocity field. Here we show that the existence of a collective flow field implies characteristic modifications of high-pT parton fragmentation. We generalize t...

Elliptic flow and the high pT ridge in Au+Au collisions

Dihadron correlations are used in heavy-ion collisions to study the effect of jet-quenching and other interactions of jets with the medium created in the collision overlap zone [1, 2]. In non-central collisions, this overlap zone is not symmetric. The spatial asymmetry leads to large azimuthal anisotropies in momentum space resulting in high values of the second coefficient in the Fourier decom...

Jet quenching via jet collimation

The strong modifications of dijet properties in heavy ion collisions measured by ATLAS and CMS provide important constraints on the dynamical mechanisms underlying jet quenching. In this work, we show that the transport of soft gluons away from the jet cone — jet collimation — can account for the observed dijet asymmetry with values of q̂ L that lie in the expected order of magnitude. Further, w...

Jets as a Probe of Dense Matter at RHIC

Jet quenching in the matter created in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions provides a tomographic tool to probe the medium properties. Recent experimental results on jet production at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) are reviewed. Jet properties in p+p and d+Au collisions have been measured, establishing the baseline for studying jet modification in heavy-ion collisions. Current pr...

Calorimetric transverse energy-energy correlations as a probe of jet quenching

The sensitivity of calorimetric energy-energy correlation function to the mediuminduced energy loss of fast partons in high multiplicity heavy ion interactions is demonstrated at the appropriate selection of events for the analysis, namely, the availability of one high-pT jet in an event at least and using the procedure of “thermal” background subtraction. Without jet trigger this correlation f...
